What Kind of User Are You?
November 11, 2003
What kind of user are you? Use this guide to determine
what kind of user you are.
Categories
Generally, I break users into 3 or 4 categories. First you have the
basic users or newbies as many would call them. Second you have
general users or business users. Third you have gamers. Fourth are
techies.
Newbie
Newbies or general users are users who have very little
experience using computers or users who only need a computer for a few basic
functions. They typically use a computer for web surfing, email,
and some very basic word processing.
General User
General users or business users are users who use computers
for the same functions as newbies, but are much more advanced in web and
software usage. They do impressive Word documents and add graphs to
their spreadsheets in Excel. They might do some gaming, they customize
Windows a bit, and they many even do a little web development with tools like
Microsoft FrontPage or some similar application. Typically these users
are people that use computers at work or are students in school using
computers for their school work. This classification covers
probably 80% of all computer users.
