Getting Started
A mouse upgrade is probably one of the easiest upgrades you can do to improve your day to day
pc use. Microsoft packages everything you need. You can expect the package to include a manual,
the mouse, and a CD containing Microsoft’s IntelliPoint software. All the major functional aspects
work without installing the IntelliPoint software that comes with the package. You can just plug in
the USB cable and XP will find the appropriate driver to make it all work.
If you want to use all the extra features with the mouse, then installing the IntelliPoint software
is simple and fast. Once you insert the CD, the installer should launch. You can follow “next” through
each setup screen. Once you have, the added features that are offered through IntelliPoint are instantly
at your fingertips. You can then go in through control panel and customize what each of the four buttons
do. You may need to do this to customize such actions like double click, keystrokes, delete, copy, undo
and many others.

Usability
The Microsoft Laser Mouse 6000 offers some really cool features. The appeal of Laser has in the past been to
gamers, graphics designers, architects, etc. The added precision and control that laser offers over a traditional
trackball or optical is a great benefit to anyone. Microsoft catered their laser mouse to a more general audience.
While it can still perform for the traditional crowd it appeals to, it has two nice features that help improve daily
pc use. A particularly useful feature is their button that allows you to magnify or zoom. It also doubles as a precision
booster when you need to quickly increase the resolution of your mouse. I found it very handy to be able to bring up the
magnify options when working in such applications as Photoshop, Acrobat, Internet Explorer or any other application where
it is common to zoom in for greater detail.
I found the mouse to be a good fit in my hand. It has an ergonomic design and smooth finish. I use my mouse a lot
for gaming. Although it has the speed booster, I did not find the Microsoft Laser Mouse 6000 to be as flexible in game
as other competing mice that are designed specifically for gaming. If you are looking for a mouse that is more general
purpose then Microsoft is a good alternative.
