Samsung ML-2010 Laser Printer Review

Just a few years ago, laser printers were too expensive for home use as ink based printers were the
mainstream for those with home offices. This has changed in the past year as laser printers have steadily
decreased in price while ink based printer prices remained constant. Printer manufacturers are now able
to offer a low cost laser printer solution for those homes that print in larger volumes. One such
manufacturer is Samsung and the ML-2010 is a perfect example of such a black and white laser printer.

Getting Started
With a retail tag of around $113.99US and replacement toner cartridges going for $69.99US, the
ML-2010 may also catch your eye as a good deal. However, let’s take a quick look and see how cost
effective this printer may be over its ink cartridge competition. The average ink cartridge based
printer averages around $100US, add the retail price of $30US per ink cartridge and it quickly adds
up as the yield is only 850 pages. With the average yield of 3,000 pages per toner cartridge for the
ML-2010, it becomes very clear which one is the most economic choice. Samsung has added its TonerSave
feature, which when enables can extend the toner yield up to 40%.
Usability
Installation is fairly straightforward as the ML-2010 only supports connections via USB and
after installing the drivers via the quick installation CD we were printing. Those who are worried
about amount of space that this printer will take up can be relieved to know that ML-2010’s footprint
is the same size, if not smaller than today’s deskjet printers.
Featuring a non-expandable 8MB of memory, the ML-2010 is able to hold 150 sheets of paper. Printing
speed is very comparable to today’s ink printers with its 22 pages per minutes and first page printing
within 10 seconds. Quality is good for graphical and text documents, but the ML-2010 is no replacement
for a photo quality printer.
