Getting Started

Setup and installation is a no-brainer with the Canon Pixma iP3000. After removing the bright orange protective caps from the print cartridges, simply slide them into their bays and you’re off to the races. Canon offers an “easy” and “custom” installation, complete with animation. Following installation, I was surprised to see that the printer had learned my name, and automatically filled in “Sam” as the owner. Now that is one smart printer.

Appearance

Canon has a reputation to maintain and they don’t disappoint with the iP3000. No frills, no eye-catching logos, no distracting designs, but arguably the most perfect layout available. The edges are completely smoothed over, leaving about a 1” diagonal trim surrounding the casing. The paper feed and catch tray can be found in the usual locations. You’ll notice, though, that the power button is slyly positioned over the front-right corner, certainly a unique design feature.

Features

  • Up to 22 ppm black /up to 15 ppm color
  • Dual paper path with built-in 2 sided printing
  • Maximum 4800 x 1200 color dpi with microscopic droplets as small as 2 picoliters
  • Direct photo printing from PictBridge compatible digital cameras & DV camcorders
  • 4 individual ink tanks help reduce waste and can save you money
  • Borderless 4" x 6" photographs in approx. 36 seconds

Pros:

  • Sturdy frame
  • Sleek design
  • Quality prints
  • Flawless paper feed and catch trays

Cons:

  • None

Adding It All Up

I am proud to give the Canon Pixma iP3000 my highest recommendation. Canon can’t improve on itself much more than this – and at a price point of under $100 it is an absolute steal.

A special thank-you to Canon for providing this fine product for review on UpgradeAdvisor.com.
