Are you always looking for a way to justify or purchase a larger display? Maybe you figured out some time
ago that dual displays can solve this need for you. With LCDs becoming more affordable and taking up much
less space than two CRT monitors, dual LCD monitors are more economical than ever. Microsoft enabled its Windows
operating systems to support multiple monitors some time ago. The benefit of using multiple monitors is instant
and immense because the user can display a different program or document on each monitor at the same time.
Almost all graphics cards sold today offer multi-display features, meaning they offer connectivity to more than one monitor. Dual
monitors have obvious usage in the medical world and business world. But what about for home users? Is there a real benefit? Let's
take a look at the DoubleSight Dual 19" LCD monitor and find out.

Getting Started
Dual monitors have been used for years by stock traders, accountants, medical technicians, graphics designers, and in many other
professions for years. For most home users desk space was an issue. With LCDs becoming more common and very affordable, we see
dual monitors more and more in the home. I have used dual CRT monitors and now use two LCD monitors. Even though LCDs have a small footprint,
two separate monitors can still take up quite a bit of space. The DoubleSight Dual 19" displays have a single footprint with
the way the bracket and stand is designed. DoubleSight doesn't make the displays. Their value is in bringing two displays together.
In fact, these two 19" monitors display as much data as a single 30 inch LCD monitor at a more affordable price. Using two monitors has
obvious productivity gains in the business world. At home, I use two monitors. While I'm developing websites, researching articles, or reading email
on one screen, I can have a movie or my media player running on the other. For you gamers, you would think that dual monitors could have obvious
uses. You could display your maps or command modes on one screen and the game on the other. Or you could theoretically use both monitors and see
twice as much game. Unfortunately game developers have not made this possible. So most current games do not support dual monitors.
Setting up the DS-1900 took a matter of minutes. You simply connect both displays to the bracket, tighten down the screws, and you are
ready to go. DoubleSight doesn't skimp on cables either. Two DVI and two analog cables ship with the displays along with power cables
for both. So depending on what your video card has, you can run at least one display with a digital signal and the other analog. Quality
of the displays is fantastic. When waiting for the displays to arrive, we were expecting 25ms response times. The displays that arrived
were actually 8ms displays. This along with the other superb specs, made watching movies and gaming as well as all other uses superb.
We are not sure of the exact model, but it appears that Samsung LCDs are used by DoubleSight in their dual monitor kits.

Usability
As we mentioned, the DS-1900 LCDs are superbly built both on the outside and inside. We won't spend a lot
of time on the specifics, but the 8ms response time prevented ghosting. Images, documents, and application screens
were crisp, vibrant, and clear. Very similar to what we experienced when reviewing the Samsung 915n and 193P
displays.
An important aspect of running two displays on one video card is the reduced performance. Because the GPU is now rendering
images for two displays, performance does take a hit. Although rare, I have heard stories of people frying their video card
running dual displays. So make sure yours is in good shape physically before connecting two displays. If you are wanting to
do a lot with intense graphics in movies, or gaming, or other graphic intensive activities, you might want to consider upgrading
to a mid to high end video card that will have sufficient processing power and memory to handle it.
